What is Activism?
The notion of social activism has been lost. In many cases it has come to mean being opinionated, close minded to dissenting views and entitled to value your opinion over others. Activism has become synonymous with judgement, and as such it has started to lose credibility.
Activism has strayed from its roots, that is, to act. Activism is about making change, and the only way to make change is to inspire. No person is making lifestyle changes or challenging their views based on a lecture, a talking to, or a guilt-inducing speech. Change comes from inspiration, a motivation that acts as an impetus for change. The only way to do that is to go out there, be a pioneer and actually change the world. If you really believe in change, and you act on it, those around you will notice. They will see the hard work, the passion, the effort. Perhaps they will change their perception, perhaps they will change their actions. Don’t just scream actions speak louder than words, because no one is listening. Show them. Give people a tangible lead to follow. To inspire others, not to degrade them, that it was real activism is.
